75 Years of Excellence!
In 1943, a few local writers from southwest Missouri decided a writers’ group was needed. The Springfield Writers’ Guild (SWG) was formed with the first president being Donna Ashworth Thompson. It is one of the first chapters of the Missouri Writers’ Guild (MWG) which was founded in 1915 by Walter Williams, the founder of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism in Columbia, MO.
A celebration party was held on November 24, 2018, at McAlister’s Deli in Springfield, Missouri with cake, fun gift exchange, and many memories shared.
The Springfield Writers’ Guild will continue to meet at the 1711 West Battlefield location of McAlister’s Deli (See map below). Join us at 11:00 a.m. for Mentor Hour when we read and critique members’ writings. The speaker joins us at 1:00 p.m. followed by a short business meeting.
