2017 Writing Contests


Cosmographia Books is hosting a monthly poetry contest. One poem a month will receive publication and $50. Any style, any length. Submissions are open on a rolling basis. Poems are chosen after the 25th of each month. There is a $3 entry fee. More guidelines, and online submission at https://cosmographia.submittable.com/submit

Cosmographia Books is also accepting CHAPBOOK submissions – 40-60 pages, any style poetry. Poems may have been previously published, but not in book form. $15 submission fee. Winner of the CHAPBOOK CONTEST received $250 plus publication and author copies.


Two Sisters Writing & Publishing Contests for 2018
THEME: “A Dog’s Life” short story contest
Deadline: February 28, 2018
Use first person from the dog’s POV in 1000-1200 words. Previously unpublished and original.
First Prize – $75 and publication in anthology
Entry fee – $8
THEME: “The Day Before Vacation” short story contest
Deadline: March 31, 2018, 1000-1200 words. Previously unpublished and original.
First Prize – $75 and publication in anthology; Entry fee – $8


The Love & Romance Contest from 2 Elizabeths is open to amorous short fiction and poetry.


TCK Publishing Readers Choice Awards

Deadline December 10. TCK Publishing, a self-publishing and book-marketing service provider, is offering this prize for self-published and indie authors. Entrants may submit one book for free. There are several categories including general fiction, thriller, romance, fantasy, business, self-help, and religion. The editorial committee chooses the finalists, which are then shared on the Readers Choice Voting Page for public vote. The grand prize winner (across all genres) receives a Kindle Fire HD8 Tablet and a book review on the site, and winners in each category receive special badges and promotion on social media.




Hosted by BLUE MOUNTAIN ARTS, this biannual contest gives prizes up to $350 for poems suitable for a greeting card. No length limit, but shorter poems are best. Deadline: December 31.


About Springfield Writers' Guild

Springfield Writers' Guild was formed in 1943 to encourage new writers and hone the skills of the writing craft. The group meets every fourth Saturday of the month (except for December) at McAlister's Deli, 1711 W. Battlefield in Springfield, Missouri. Visitors are welcome.
